What’s involved?

  • Introduction to coral reefs – Coral reefs are biodiverse, but fragile environments. Globally, they are declining at an alarming rate. This module introduces you to coral reef ecosystems around the world with a focus on the unique reefs of the Red Sea.
  • Introduction to reef species – In this module you will learn how to recognize key reef-dwelling organisms and use a simple system to classify them.
  • Current threats to coral reefs and their future – You will consider the various threats to coral reefs from human activities, including pollution, coastal development, tourism, and fishing, as well as gaining an insight into the diseases afflicting coral species.
  • AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Certification Program – You will gain this PADI Specialty Certification with this course.
